Who we are

Dr. Michael Wolohan Instant Sports Injury AssessmentInstant Sports Injury Assessment (ISIA) is a company founded by Dr. Michael J. Wolohan, an orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience.  Michael is a well-established member of the Saginaw Community.

What we do

Telemedicine is quickly becoming a normalized medical option in order to bring medical advice to patients with greater ease and less cost.  ISIA provides telemedicine for sports injuries so that fractures, sprains, strains, concussions, overuse injuries, and pain while playing can be diagnosed and addressed quickly — maybe even before you leave the field!  This is also an excellent application for coaches, athletic trainers, and athletes trying to navigate activity modification.  Not sure if you should do it?  Ask an expert!

Why we do it

Good process and prompt evaluation and treatment of sports injuries is important. As an example of the challenges surrounding the issue of concussion in high school athletes, one study suggests that nearly 70% of high school athletes played with concussions despite their symptoms, and 40% reported that their coaches did not know of the injury. Through the use of ISIA, we hope to help better define next best steps in case of injuries, provide ease of access to advanced medical treatment when appropriate, reduce ER visits and thereby costs, help patients and families save on co-pays and deductibles, and significantly accelerate safe return to play.

How does ISIA work?

In order to use ISIA, you would go to the portal website, fill out a brief registration and request and appointment.   You would wait in a virtual waiting room, but if you prefer, leave your phone number when you make the appointment and a doctor will call you when we’re ready to speak.  A doctor should follow up with you within 1 hour of your initial request, but it could be as quickly as 2-3 minutes.

From there, using cameras on both ends, you’d be able to see the physician and they could see you – just the same as an in-person exam.  The physician may ask you to demonstrate range of motion exercises, or to show them the injury.   We can prescribe medicine through the application, and follow up appointments in-office are conveniently made, if required after your initial visit.

How long does it take?

Our doctors work to be as efficient as possible.  Wait time with ISIA is minimal, and best of all, you’re waiting in the comfort of your own home, or out on the field.  Our goal is to instantly evaluate sports injuries, so coaches don’t have to make tough decisions on their about whether or not their players are eligible for play — get an expert opinion!

Where can I connect from?

Telemedicine can be performed from a phone, iphone, or computer.  All you need is a high-speed internet connection and a camera and microphone.
